The Master's degree in Applied Telecommunications and Engineering Management (MASTEAM) organizes a weekly series of activities (talks, technical visits, discussion pannels) that complement the academic activities with real-world experiences from companies, research centres and institutions in the main topics of the master: Internet of Things. Smart Cities, 5G communications, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Radio (SDR), cloud computing, among others.
This week's activity will be a talk.
Title: 4G and 5G for Mission Critical Communications. From TETRA to Public Safety LTE. David Viamonte (Genaker)
Abstract:First Responders (Ambulances, Fire Brigades and Police Forces) have been using dedicated radio communication systems to support their Critical Communications over more than sixty years.
Today we are at the tipping point where several elements in the marketplace promise to disrupt Mission Critical communications for first responders. Effectively, availability of cost effective rugged LTE devices, the evolution of LTE technologies and upcoming developments in 3GPP Release-12, 13 and 14 standards have created the ecosystem that will enable the migration from legacy radio communication systems into Next Generation IP-based Mission Critical solutions on top of 4G and 5G networks. In this session we will briefly cover the evolution of Mission Critical communication technologies and discus the opportunities and threats for the delivery of innovative services in this particular ecosystem.
Bio:David Viamonte holds a MSc and BSc in Telecommunications Engineering by Technical University of Catalunya. He is currently responsible for Sales & Marketing at Genaker, involved in the development of company portfolio and strategy to deliver Business Critical and Mission Critical communications for professional users, based on Next Generation technologies.
